How to Transfer Domains Out of Mailforge, Infraforge, or Primeforge

How to transfer domains out of Mailforge, Infraforge, or Primeforge

If you have domains managed through Mailforge, Infraforge, or Primeforge and want to move them to another registrar or manage their DNS elsewhere, the process depends on how the domains were originally added to your account.

There are two types of domains:

  1. Domains purchased through Mailforge, Infraforge, or Primeforge: These domains can be transferred to another registrar by requesting an authorization (EPP) code from our support team.

  2. Connected domains: These are domains you originally purchased from an external registrar and connected to our services using nameservers or DNS access. Since we don't manage their registration, you can manage them directly through your original registrar.

You can also request a nameserver update if you want to change DNS management without transferring the domain registration.

1. Transferring Domains Purchased Through Mailforge, Infraforge, or Primeforge

If you purchased your domains directly through one of our services, you can request a transfer to another registrar.

A domain transfer moves the domain registration to your chosen registrar, where you'll manage future renewals and registration settings.

How to Request a Domain Transfer

  1. Contact our support team through your Mailforge, Infraforge, or Primeforge account.

  2. Provide the list of domains you want to transfer.

  3. Confirm that you want the domains unlocked and request their authorization codes (EPP codes).

  4. Our team will check whether the domains are eligible for transfer.

  5. If eligible, we'll unlock the domains and provide the authorization codes.

  6. Visit your new registrar and initiate the domain transfer.

  7. Enter the authorization codes when requested.

  8. Complete any verification or approval steps required by the new registrar.

The actual transfer is processed through your destination registrar. Once we've provided the authorization codes, you'll need to complete the remaining steps with them.

Information to Include in Your Request

When contacting support, please provide:

  • The service you're using (Mailforge, Infraforge, or Primeforge).

  • The list of domains you want to transfer.

  • Confirmation that you want the domains unlocked.

  • A request for authorization/EPP codes.

  • Your destination registrar, if known.

Example request:

"I'd like to transfer the following domains out of Primeforge. Please unlock them and provide their EPP authorization codes."

Include your domain list below the request.

2. Managing Connected Domains

If you purchased your domains from an external registrar and later connected them to Mailforge, Infraforge, or Primeforge, you don't need to request a domain transfer from us.

Connected domains are not registered through our services. They remain registered with your original registrar, and you've only connected them to our infrastructure for DNS management or mailbox configuration.

Depending on how your domains were connected, you can disconnect them using one of the following methods.

Option A: Revert Your Nameservers

If you connected your domains by changing their nameservers:

  1. Log in to the registrar where you originally purchased the domains.

  2. Navigate to the domain's DNS or nameserver settings.

  3. Replace the current nameservers with the nameservers you want to use.

  4. Save your changes.

  5. Allow time for the DNS changes to propagate.

Once the nameservers are updated, DNS management will move to the provider associated with the new nameservers.

Important: Make sure any DNS records you still need are configured at the new DNS provider before changing nameservers.

Option B: Revoke DNS API Access

If your domains were connected through API-based DNS access, such as the Cloudflare integration available in Primeforge, you can revoke the relevant API credentials from your original provider.

  1. Log in to your original DNS provider.

  2. Navigate to the API credentials or access management section.

  3. Identify the API key or token used for the integration.

  4. Revoke the relevant credentials.

Revoking API access prevents further DNS changes through those credentials.

Note: Revoking API access does not automatically remove existing DNS records. Review and update any records associated with your previous mailbox setup separately.

If you need help identifying how your domains were connected, contact our support team.

What Happens to Connected Domains?

Since connected domains were already registered with an external registrar:

  • Their registration remains with the original registrar.

  • Domain renewal management remains with that registrar.

  • You don't need EPP codes from Mailforge, Infraforge, or Primeforge.

  • Changing nameservers or revoking API access does not transfer domain ownership or registration.

If you also want to transfer the domain registration to a different registrar, you'll need to initiate that process through your current registrar.

3. Alternative: Change Nameservers Without Transferring Your Domain

If you purchased domains through Mailforge, Infraforge, or Primeforge but only want to manage their DNS elsewhere, you may be able to request a nameserver update instead of a full domain transfer.

With this option:

  • The domain registration remains with its current registrar.

  • DNS management moves to the provider associated with your new nameservers.

  • Domain renewals remain managed through the existing registration provider.

  • You don't need to initiate an inter-registrar transfer.

How to Request a Nameserver Update

  1. Contact our support team.

  2. Provide the list of domains you want updated.

  3. Share the new nameservers you want to use.

  4. Our team will review the request and confirm the available options.

For Mailforge and Infraforge, you can also refer to our guide on changing nameservers.

Important: A nameserver update is not the same as a registrar transfer. Your domains remain registered with the existing registrar, and only DNS management changes.

What Happens to Your Mailboxes and Domain Settings?

Before transferring or disconnecting domains, it's important to understand how your existing setup may be affected.

Mailbox Functionality

Mailboxes provisioned through Mailforge, Infraforge, or Primeforge are not transferred automatically with your domain registration.

If those mailboxes are disconnected from our infrastructure or the associated service is removed, they will stop working.

This can affect:

  • Sending and receiving emails.

  • Existing mailbox connections in Salesforge or other sending platforms.

  • Active email sequences.

  • Warm-up activity.

  • Access to existing mailbox data.

If you plan to continue using the domains for email, arrange replacement mailbox hosting and migrate any important data before disconnecting your existing setup.

DNS Records

Changing nameservers or disconnecting your domain from our DNS infrastructure can affect records such as:

  • MX: Controls where incoming emails are delivered.

  • SPF: Defines which email servers can send on behalf of your domain.

  • DKIM: Helps authenticate outgoing emails.

  • DMARC: Defines how receiving servers should handle authentication failures.

  • Tracking records: Used for tracking links and other campaign functionality.

Make sure the necessary records are configured with your new DNS provider before switching nameservers.

Domain Renewals

If you complete a registrar transfer:

  • Future domain renewals will be managed by your new registrar.

  • You'll need to review the renewal settings and pricing with the new registrar.

If you only change nameservers, domain renewal management stays with the existing registrar.

Note: Transferring a domain registration does not automatically transfer your email hosting or DNS configuration.

5. Domain Transfer Restrictions and the 60-Day ICANN Lock

Domain transfers are subject to registrar and registry policies.

For domains covered by ICANN's transfer policy, a transfer may be restricted if:

  • The domain was registered within the last 60 days.

  • The domain was transferred from another registrar within the last 60 days.

  • A 60-day transfer lock applies following a change of registrant information.

  • The domain is locked or subject to another transfer restriction.

  • The domain is expired or in a restricted state that prevents transfer.

For more information, see ICANN's domain transfer guidance.

Can I Transfer Only Some of My Domains?

Yes. You can request a transfer for specific domains without transferring every domain in your account.

Simply provide the exact domain names you want to transfer when contacting support.

The same applies to nameserver update requests.

Summary

If you want to transfer or disconnect domains associated with Mailforge, Infraforge, or Primeforge, the correct process depends on how the domains were originally registered and connected.

  • Domains purchased through our services: Contact support to request an unlock and EPP authorization codes, then complete the transfer through your new registrar.

  • Connected domains: Manage them through your original registrar by reverting nameservers or revoking the applicable DNS API access. You don't need EPP codes from us.

  • Nameserver updates: If you only want to move DNS management, request a nameserver change without transferring the domain registration.

Remember that transferring or disconnecting domains can affect mailbox functionality and DNS settings. Mailboxes do not automatically move with your domains, so make sure you've prepared your new setup before making changes.

If you're unsure which option applies to your domains, contact our support team for assistance.
