# What Are Pre-Warmed Domains and Mailboxes?

Learn how pre-warmed domains and mailboxes work, how they are prepared, and how they can help you start cold outreach faster.

Pre-warmed domains and mailboxes are email infrastructure that has already gone through a warm-up process before you start sending cold outreach. This allows you to begin sending right away without waiting for a new domain and mailbox to build up sender reputation from scratch.

## What Does "Pre-Warmed" Mean?

When a new domain or mailbox is created, email providers have little or no sending history to evaluate. Sending a large volume of cold emails immediately can therefore hurt deliverability.

Email warm-up gradually establishes a sending reputation by generating legitimate email activity between mailboxes. Over time, this creates a history of sending and receiving emails and helps establish trust with email service providers.

With a pre-warmed domain or mailbox, this process has already been completed before the infrastructure is delivered to you.

Instead of:

1. Purchase a new domain and mailboxes.

2. Set up the infrastructure.

3. Start warming up the mailboxes.

4. Wait for the warm-up period to complete.

5. Start your outreach.

You can start with infrastructure that has already been warmed up.

## How Do Pre-Warmed Domains and Mailboxes Work?

Pre-warmed infrastructure is prepared before it is assigned to you.

The process generally works like this:

1. A domain is registered and configured.

2. Mailboxes are created under the domain.

3. The necessary email authentication and DNS records are configured.

4. The mailboxes are connected to a warm-up network.

5. The mailboxes exchange email activity with other mailboxes in the network.

6. Sending activity is gradually established over time.

7. Once the infrastructure has been sufficiently warmed, it becomes available as pre-warmed infrastructure.

8. You can connect the mailboxes to your sending platform and begin your outreach.

Pre-warming does not mean that a mailbox will permanently maintain a good reputation regardless of how it is used. Your sending practices still affect deliverability, so you should continue following recommended sending limits and keep your infrastructure monitored after you start sending.

## Pre-Warmed Infrastructure Has Limited Customization

Because pre-warmed infrastructure is prepared in advance, it is less customizable than creating new domains and mailboxes yourself.

When purchasing pre-warmed infrastructure:

- **Domain names are pre-selected** and cannot be chosen based on your company name or preferred domain.

- **Mailbox usernames are pre-set** and cannot be customized to your preferred names.

- You receive infrastructure that has already been configured and warmed rather than creating each domain and mailbox from scratch.

- You can connect the delivered mailboxes to your sending platform and use them for outreach immediately.

For example, if you want a specific domain such as `yourcompany.com` with mailboxes such as `john@yourcompany.com` and `sales@yourcompany.com`, pre-warmed infrastructure may not be suitable.

In that case, you should create your own domains and mailboxes and warm them up yourself.

### When Should I Use Pre-Warmed Infrastructure?

Pre-warmed infrastructure is best when **speed is more important than choosing specific domain and mailbox names**.

Choose pre-warmed infrastructure if you:

- Need to start sending quickly

- Don't need specific domain names

- Don't need specific mailbox usernames

- Want to skip the initial warm-up period

- Are setting up temporary or additional infrastructure for an outreach campaign

Choose regular infrastructure if you:

- Need domains that match your company or brand

- Need specific mailbox names

- Want full control over your domain portfolio

- Are building long-term infrastructure around your own domains

- Don't mind waiting for your mailboxes to complete the warm-up process

## Pre-Warmed Does Not Mean "Spam-Proof"

Pre-warming gives a domain or mailbox an established history, but it does not guarantee inbox placement.

Once you begin sending, the reputation of the infrastructure can still be affected by factors such as:

- Sending too many emails

- High bounce rates

- Spam complaints

- Poor-quality or unverified leads

- Low engagement

- Poor email copy

- Incorrect DNS or authentication configuration

For this reason, pre-warmed infrastructure should still be monitored and used with good cold email practices.

## Pre-Warmed vs. New Infrastructure

The main difference is **when the warm-up happens**.

**New infrastructure:**

1. Create domain and mailboxes

2. Configure infrastructure

3. Warm up mailboxes

4. Wait for the warm-up period

5. Begin outreach

**Pre-warmed infrastructure:**

1. Purchase pre-warmed infrastructure

2. Connect your mailboxes to your sending platform

3. Begin outreach

Pre-warmed infrastructure is therefore primarily a **time-saving option**. It does not remove the need for good sending practices or ongoing deliverability monitoring.

## Identifying Pre-Warmed Mailboxes within your workspace

Pre-warmed mailboxes are marked with a **"Pre-warmed"** label, making them easy to identify.
